• Make sure to carefully read the Medication Guide given to you by your pharmacist before starting lisdexamfetamine each time you need a refill. If you have any concerns, don’t hesitate to ask your doctor or pharmacist for clarification.
• Follow your doctor’s directions and take this medication with or without food, typically once a day in the morning. Avoid taking it in the afternoon or evening to prevent sleep disturbances. The dosage will depend on your medical condition and how you respond to the treatment. Your doctor may need to adjust your dose to determine the most suitable one for you. Be sure to follow your doctor’s guidance closely.
• Make sure to chew the tablet thoroughly before swallowing if you are taking the chewable tablet.
• For the capsule form, swallow it whole. If you find it difficult to swallow the capsule, you can open it and mix the powder in water, orange juice, or yogurt. Stir well until it dissolves completely and consume it immediately. Remember not to prepare it beforehand. It’s okay to see a film coating in your glass after consuming the medicine.
• Make sure to take this medication regularly in order to receive the maximum benefits from it. To make it easier to remember, try taking it at the same time every day.
• Throughout your treatment, your doctor may occasionally suggest temporarily stopping the medication to observe any changes in your behavior and determine if the medication is still necessary.
• If you abruptly discontinue the use of this medication, you may experience withdrawal symptoms such as extreme fatigue, sleep issues, or changes in your mental and emotional state like depression. To minimize the chances of withdrawal, your doctor may gradually reduce your dosage. If you do experience withdrawal symptoms, be sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist immediately.
• While this medication provides relief for many individuals, there is a possibility of addiction. The risk of addiction may increase if you have a substance use disorder, like abusing drugs or alcohol. It is important not to exceed the prescribed dose, frequency, or duration of use. Remember to discontinue the medication as directed.
• If this medication is used for an extended period, its effectiveness may decrease.
• Consult your doctor if you notice a decrease in effectiveness. Inform your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it worsens.

Side Effects

• You may experience some side effects while taking this medication, such as nausea, vomiting, constipation, stomach/abdominal pain, loss of appetite, dry mouth, headache, nervousness, dizziness, trouble sleeping, sweating, weight loss, irritability, and restlessness. If any of these effects persist or worsen, it’s important to inform your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
• It’s worth noting that your doctor has prescribed this medication because they believe that the benefits outweigh the potential risks of side effects. It’s reassuring to know that many people who use this medication do not experience any serious side effects.
• Additionally, this medication may have an impact on your blood pressure. It’s advisable to regularly check your blood pressure and inform your doctor if the results are high.
• Please make sure to inform your doctor immediately if you experience any severe side effects. These may include changes in vision, a fast or irregular heartbeat, alterations in mood or behavior (such as restlessness, aggression, mood swings, feelings of sadness, hallucinations, unusual thoughts or behavior, or thoughts of self-harm), uncontrollable movements, muscle twitching or shaking, signs of poor blood circulation in the fingers or toes (such as coldness, numbness, pain, or changes in skin color), unusual wounds on the fingers or toes, sudden outbursts of words or sounds, changes in sexual ability or interest, swelling in the ankles or feet, extreme fatigue, rapid and unexplained weight loss, or frequent and prolonged erections (in males).
• If you experience any severe side effects such as difficulty breathing, passing out, pain in the chest, jaw or left arm, seizures, weakness on one side of the body, trouble speaking confusion, or sudden changes in vision, seek immediate medical assistance.
• This medicine has the potential to raise serotonin levels and in rare cases lead to a severe condition known as serotonin syndrome/toxicity. The risk is higher if you are using other medications that also increase serotonin, so make sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist about all the drugs you are taking (refer to the Drug Interactions section). Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of the following symptoms: rapid heartbeat, hallucinations, lack of coordination, extreme dizziness, intense nausea/vomiting/diarrhea, muscle twitching, unexplained fever, and unusual restlessness/agitation.
• It’s uncommon to have a severe allergic reaction to this medication. But if you experience any signs of a serious allergic reaction like rash, swelling, dizziness, or difficulty breathing, seek medical assistance immediately.
